Nowadays many families can`t enjoy the parenthood for some physiological reasons. But this problem may be solved with modern medical technologies. The Centre for Reproductive Medicine PARENS offers you a chance to create a new life using In Vitro Fertilization technology.

    What kind of procedure is it?

    In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a conventional assisted reproductive technology. The principle used in this method is that spermatozoa and oocytes bind in a glass tube (in vitro) instead of a patient’s body. On the 5th day, the created embryos are transferred to the uterine cavity, and they develop there in a way they would do in the course of the natural pregnancy.

    In Vitro Fertilization is recommended in the following cases:

    • Infertility (male and/or female) and the treatment performed for 9-12 months after diagnosing gave no results;
    • The disease that makes conception without application of In Vitro Fertilization impossible.

    In some cases, a patient may be recommended In Vitro Fertilization with donor eggs. The doctor decides on whether it is appropriate basing on the medical history and test results.

    How is the IVF procedure performed?

    After referring for help, the patients take the following steps:

    1. Examination of a couple. Identify the causes of infertility. Tests and individual treatment plan.
    2. Onset of the very procedure – superovulation. It is done with hormonal medicines. The procedure takes 7-10 days.
    3. Retrieval of an egg. After the preparation stage, eggs are collected from ovaries by the egg collection procedure. It takes up to 10-20 minutes.
    4. Sperm collection. Sperm is collected on a day of the procedure. The best-quality cells are selected separately.
    5. In Vitro Fertilization. This procedure is performed in 4 hours after egg retrieval. Fertilized oocytes are kept in a special environment.
    6. Embryo culture. It takes 3-5 days for embryos to develop. Embryologists carefully monitor this process.
    7. Embryo transfer. On the 5th day after IVF, the embryos are transferred into the patient’s uterus. To prevent multiple pregnancies, only two embryos are transferred. This procedure is almost painless, that is why it is performed in an outpatient facility and without any anesthesia.

    Support and pregnancy care. The doctor, who performed IVF, supervises the pregnancy. After confirming the pregnancy, the patient keeps taking hormonal medicines to prevent pregnancy termination. During the whole period of pregnancy, the doctors take care of the patient.

    Positive IVF result depends on a number of factors:

    • The age of the patient;
    • Quality of the eggs and sperm;
    • Uterine cavity state;
    • Doctor’s professional degree.

    Fertility specialists recommend this procedure only if natural fertilization is absolutely impossible. The risks of In Vitro Fertilization are minimal.
