Surrogacy program is a set of measures for women who can’t bear the child on their own. With the modern surrogacy programs, many families who cannot have children may enjoy the parenthood. There are two types of such programs. The first and the most common one involves the creation of an embryo using the eggs and sperm of both parents-to-be. In this case, the couple gets a chance to have a genetically related child, carried by a surrogate mother.
There is a second option, when the donor cells (male or female) are used, but at least one intended parent must be genetically related to the future child that is carried by a surrogate mother. In the modern surrogacy programs, it is possible to select the donors taking into consideration phenotype, so that the future child is maximally similar to its parents.

Only a somatically and physically healthy woman may become a surrogate mother. The one has to meet all the requirements and have no contraindications to taking part in a surrogacy program.

In case of need, the potential surrogate mother signs consent for the cesarean section. The probability of successful conception and bearing of a child using a surrogacy program is higher than using the convenient IVF protocol.
In Ukraine, the surrogacy program is regulated by the Order of the MoH №787 as of 09.09.2013 and is separately specified in the legislation.
